Hike from Durnholzer see the Pilgrim's top (Sarntal )

"Muasch necessarily amol on that" Top of St. James, do isch it full schean!” This call came from my ceiling experienced sister. OK , today Sunday, 24. August is so far, I follow your advice. Let us to four (that best Freundin von allen , Her sister and her boyfriend, and I) on in the Sarntal up to Durnholz (After Sarnthein) the Durnholzer see (1.540 m . (d). M.).

Durnholzer See
(Durnholzer see and Durnholz in the Val Sarentino/Sarntal)

The Durnholzersee is freezing cold in the middle of summer and is therefore although not for swimming but one Hike around is the idyllic Mountain Lake always worth.

We Viere not want but Durnholzer see go around, but on the highest point of Sarntales on the top of St. James. We Park our car slightly above below the Durnholzer Lake, as is the street only for authorised until after Durnholz.

Links to the Durnholzer see past we begin Mountain tour to the top of the St. James. At the northern end of Lake of Durnholzer we take the path n °. 5 and walk through the forest, steeply upwards. We are rewarded with a magnificent view of the crystal-clear mountain lake.

It doesn't take long until we reach an asphalt road, We according to GPS must follow. Despite the navigational aid we make it the junction with the route No.. 5A Miss. Annoying, but we have about 200 m back before we path n °. 5A may high walk.

Once we have passed the coniferous forest behind us, We meet on a Heath full of Heather (Erika flowers). We wandern across the still thriving Heath by Traipse (Mountain pine) through. The landscape presents itself in a lush green-red. A great play of colours.

This is about us Summit cross already to see! We are therefore good cheer. Which Hiking tour seems to be ever less strict, as suggested.

The higher we get greater the Heath enters her dress. You turns in an alpine meadow and then in a barren mountain landscape with sparse spruces. After approximately 2 Half hours we arrive at Control yoke on 2.530 m above sea level to.

Oh Schreck! The cross on the Summit before us turns out to be not as a goal of us vehicle! Here is not the top of the St. James! We must continue.

"I can wait here"”, says the best friend of all, as you see where we need to. "No" , We come back here no longer, This is one Circular hike “, I say. "Ok", It will already go”, She says. The best friend is some fear that, because of the Steep track turns out before us as a Arete with light Block climbing. I guess times something like a the level of difficulty, such as that of Hasenöhrl .

I like it Block climbing. I feel it not only physically, but also mentally fully required since I must constantly focus, careful to set to each step. This I do not notice the fatigue and the hardships of the way then ;-) .

After approximately 3,5 Hours we arrive at the Summit cross (2.700 m) on the top of St. James at. The best friend of all and I have out walking a short lead on our two companions, so I quickly a 360 ° can create photo, without that the whole group will have to wait an eternity.

At each Summit, an icy wind around your ears whistles us, In addition, we are hungry. We keep on us about not too long on the top of St. James and rise of loose rocks in the direction of Flaggerscharten hut (2.481 m) down.

The Flagger Spicata hut

"Hello", griast enk”, I welcome a pair, that is us and think to myself: "I know the two somehow"”. Soon after I hear below me call our companions: "Des is jo dr Nochbor"!”. Where one is also going, It applies anywhere Traminer ;-)

To approximately 15.00 Let's watch the Flagger Scharten hut to and select a suntrap terrace. Unfortunately, the stone-cold wind still around the ears whistles us. It involves a no properly fuzzy feeling despite a wonderful sunshine. No matter, We dine and drink, as it is for four Mountaineering skiers heard and I authorize me still a clear, the cold due to! Mountain Pines schnapps Of course !

Flagger Schartenhütte

Long we stay, we embark on. The way back to be longer according to tours planning as the ascent.

My Hiking companion and I walk by a first Rocky, then a barren meadow-covered boiler in towards the Valley. We can now reach the height of Mountain Pines and it is slightly warmer. We walk over hill and Dale, letting the cirques behind us, the forest contrary to.

The boot

Suddenly I hear from behind bluster someone! What is going on – What happened!? The Uwe is all in red in the face, the trouble is not to see! We get no answer but he raises his foot in the height. The half sole has of his right Mountain shoes resolved and is now rather flabby towards Earth. Solved it has of course front, so that risk of Uwe at each step would stumble over it. A proceeding is almost impossible!

What to do? Mountain rescue call? Nein. Denn Uwe tragen? Nein. The Uwe must continue barefoot? Also no. The two women have the saving idea. You fit Uwes pants apart and win by an elastic cord. A two loops around sole and shoe, the patchwork is perfect and we hope, that it keeps.

Kidding and the Uwe neckend it continues now. The Hiking trail leads through the forest. He runs the length of, but downside is we know not so strict. We walk right at the Seebalm-Hut over. Now the trail is wide and is becoming a forest road and then to a tarred road. After 7 Hours Hiking time We arrive at the north side of the Durnholzer Lake and end with the compulsory Hike around our Hiking trip in the heart of South Tyrol , the beautiful Sarntal .
