Boè Lake, Boè cabin and Piz Boè on the Sella - Gardena (Dolomites/South Tyrol)

What are the "most important" mountains of UNESCO of world heritage Dolomites? According to the television report of the Office for nature parks of the province of Bolzano, which I recently saw Bolzano in the RAI, is it the Tre Cime , the Rose garden , the Schlern , the Latemar and the Sella Massif . Which mountain group is missing in our Hiking in South Tyrol – Collection? The Sella!

Now that you want to change. We drive through the Gardena up to the Gardena pass. Since the best wife of all their veto bzgl. my initial planning "more difficult" Alpine way"had inserted", have I changed the design, so we have "only" a difficult Mountain path must follow.

A more accurate study of the information under trekking.suedtirol.info appointed days following separation of the hiking trails:

Digital network of South Tyrol:
Classification of the hiking trails or. Mountain trails

Somehow is not to see, whether the difference between Alpine road and mountain path is blatantly great. After our Latemar we want to prefer risk nothing and restricted to the mountain path, even if there are secured places on this seemingly rope. At least we hope to go to unsecured dangerous climbing passages out of the way. For the mental strength of the best wife of all would not be sufficient at present.

Das Grödner Joch am Fuße der Sellagruppe und der Tschierspitzen

The Gardena pass at the foot of the Sella Group and the Tschierspitzen

Am Gardena (2.120 m) We pay 4 Euro for the parking and then get started. On the much committed Dolomites Höhenweg No. . 2 (Hiking trail No. . 666) wandern We first relatively steeply upwards, then we left holding, flat until the junction with the mountain road Nr. 29 over. We now left and start the steep climb through the narrow valley Val Setus. The trail is here rather schottrig. Today all processions of people walk the path n °. 666 upwards .

We walk step by step in easy winding up and meet for approximately a total 30 Minutes on wire secured places. The steep Schrofen, are easy to deal with without equipment, You cost me but a lot of attention, because I think our two couples walking sticks in one hand and free have only a hand to hold.

The best wife of all is somewhat nervous in such secured passages as always. But I notice in her, that she feels the current rise compared to the unsecured Latemar-Steig very easy.

Die beste Ehefrau von allen kann das Arbeiten auch am Sellastock nicht lassen

The best wife of all may not be working also on the Sella Massif

Mountain climbing is very well secured as said, What in the light of the many, apparently untrained hiker, the here in the most famous heart of the Dolomites frolicking, in any case, it is necessary. Time and again we have to wait, because we either a corpulent Lady at the iron pins raising or a schnaufender Mr of unsafe Trittes in a snail's pace ascendeth up until he finally finds a job, where he can get past us. A beautiful climb with a breathtaking view.

On the high plateau of Sella Once the view is even better. We are forced to stop. I unpack the photographic equipment, the best wife of all has dragged work. While I don't, knobelt it despite the magnificent Sella Massif behind her, on the schedule of their school.

If you now think, I have married a workhorse, I must contradict: not a workhorse, No, a real workaholic!

After a half hour, we go on and be surprised. The Boè cabin is only 200 metres from our station!

Am Ende der gesicherten Kletterpassage unweit der Pisciadù Schutzhütte

At the end of the secured climbing passage near the Boè mountain hut

"Hoila", "grisst enk". Once again: "Hoila grisst enk". The Pius, a spa station shear Apple- and more recently cherry farmers and two climbing friends greet us. The best wife of all needs, in the absence of their glasses, something longer mitkriegt until they, who stands before us.

“Where does come from you because?”, We ask. “We are of the Boè via ferrata come up and tip were then up on the Boè”, answer our southern neighbours. “Is up to the Boè dangerous pointed the way. Do you, We could also grab the?” The Sepp, a mountain rescuers, thinks, that we the increase to the Boè Summit need to easily create, because the ascent up here,, He guess in difficult. Up to the Summit there will be only a short rope secured passage and above will concern over rock steps up to the top.

As a mountain rescuers say, peace of mind is the best wife and thus now still I may carry my camera by a difficult Alpine route to the Summit up.

The spa facilities shear had quite. The Alpine path is registered in trekking.suedtirol.info as a difficult Alpine route, but apparently the Alpine path refers above all to the site and not so much on an extra level of difficulty.

We create the ascent along the wall base of Boè Summit, a wet rope secured Schrofen passage and finally properly high somewhat suspended steps up to the Boè top in 35 Minutes . We drive the last piece of even an Austrian tourist group, the below hut has started pretty ahead at the Boè, before us. The two boys want to be not to overtake, but willingly abandons the Mädl. It doesn't matter to us, We make yes no race. Very stubborn we get our usual step up.

Piz Boè

The cross on the Summit of Piz Boè on 2.987 m is reached, the powerful Mountain the Sella Massif impressed!

The sun shines. 26° on almost 3.000 m, We believe it! OK , my Garmin Colorado measures but still in the Sun, and not in the shade.

Sonne und Energie tanken am Piz Pisciadù

Sun and energy recharge your batteries at the Piz Boè

The best wife of all uses the temperature experience for a sunbath on almost 3.000 m, while I me - how can it be different - photographic press.

Steeply North of us, I see that Boè mountain hut, If I me something, dare on the ahead of me, even the half of Boè Lake. On the other side of Val Gardena Bay leg the jagged printing You with the Puez-Geisler Nature Park, right of the Sassongher, behind the Heiligkreuzkofel The Group of the southern side during us Piz Boé (with 3.152 m a true quite!) to shouts: zweithöchster, second highest! If you are on the highest (the Sella Massif) want up, then you have to climb me! He is right! We must be sure because times up, not only because he is quite the Dolomites as the lightest.

The Sella-stock worthy of its name, He is seen above from here, as a real stock: Rocky , steeply sloping, but top flat, a huge rock plateau. Geologists and earth time researchers certainly a true dream research, which reveals the history of millions of. Here is the mentioned TV report now, the I ultimately in the RAI sender Bozen on the occasion of the forgiveness of the title "UNESCO world natural heritage" have seen.

Rundumblick am Piz Pisciadù

Panoramic view to the Piz Boè

For the descent back to the Boè Lake (Ladin: Lech de Boè) and we need the Boè cabin as long as for the ascent. This is for us very often so. We are down quite slowly on the road.

The Piscidù Lake (Lech de Boè) at the foot of Piz Boè

Although I feel quite uneasy due to the relatively extensive menu and although I have twice seen eating in Val Gardena huts a failure, do I still order polenta with goulash.

Unfortunately, my opinion is today once again confirmed. On South Tyrol Almen and it feeds shelters anywhere notable, No even tips by, only the beautiful Val Gardena is an exception because unfortunately. Here it is set to mass tourism, presents a comprehensive map, but this is the quality of the dishes. The food is although suitable for human consumption, but it is unfortunately not the of South Tyrol usual traditionally high Tyrolean quality. What a pity . This is already the only small disadvantage of the huts in the mountains of Val Gardena.

Midday Valley (Val de Mezdí)

The descent via the Midday Valley (Val de Mezdí) in the new year's Eve Stallone some scenes of the film “Cliffhanger” has shot and which one in the freeride scene as extremely demanding downhill (average gradient:34 %) has made, faces. We walk first flat in the East and then a steep schottrigen Steig with a short cable secured passage down. Then it is approaching the village of Colfosco La Villa again on quite Rocky and rocky surface.

Also here are again many holiday people on the go. We must hit the wire section 10 Minutes until finally the walkers ahead have proven your climbing skills stand in line.

A few minutes after this passage we see left signs of stream bed and on a stone sprayed a left-pointing arrow labeled Gardena pass. Just as we must to. But the GPS device to us straight on down lead. In short the Hiking map (See also Gardena South Tyrol) studied, then the current is Hiking trail amended for the second time.

Hängebrücke für die Kletterer, welche den Pisciadù Klettersteig hoch gehen

Suspension bridge for the climbers, which go up the Boè via ferrata

We turn left and walk the wall's path n °. 29B and later no.. 29 at the foot of the Sella Massif, along, in the direction of Gardena pass. We no longer have to overcome many meters, It is only easy upgrade beautiful one with Mountain Pines, Alpine roses and along path lined with low individual trees.

On half way of Stezka, we meet on the spur road to the Via ferrata Boè, the spa facilities shear farmers be kraxelt have. I look up, Although it can Fixed rope route matter, see at the top, between a rock Tower and the rock, a suspension bridge. Must be enormous, Since over to go, I say in the direction of best wife of all. She says nothing, will not even hinaufschauen.

Further, it is accompanied by the car- and the Gardena Joch road until the crossroads motorcycle noise hiking trail no.. 29 with road n °. 666. The last piece of the way leads over the already committed trail n °. 666 with a view to Tschierspitzen up to the car park at the Gardena pass down.

View of the Gardena pass and the Vallunga in the background

Content still an alpine mountain hike, so a difficult Alpine route to have managed, We climb in the car and drive over the Val Gardena Valley, Isarco Valley and South Tyrolean Unterland home in that Weindorf Tramin.

I can Mountain tour highly recommend, If you would like to climb a famous and well known mountain, without this requiring a complete climbing equipment. Attention as a difficult Alpine route is the tour but always to call, therefore remember well whether you sufficient condition, Head for heights and Surefootedness expertise and have enough mental strength, for some smaller downhill, but secured sections.

    SERVUS,
…Is the tour with children possible ? Due to the fixed rope routes ?
My sons are 10 und 7. Great tours only – Three rampart hut of Sesto after the night of Büllelejoch hut back in the Valley. Experience on the steel cable: Summit of Aggensteins (This required). (Both a year ago)

    Planning would be
In the morning from the car park to the Summit, then stay at the chalet and after breakfast in the Valley.

    Nice greetings

    Jürgen

I find already, the tour that you can dare with children. We've seen several of our mountain tour. The via ferrata is not necessarily a real via ferrata of the ambitious climbers commit (Do not confuse respect with the Boè via ferrata, the well is a real via ferrata) rather secured passages are in the path, so that you can get, What do but quite a few.

I would that they themselves want to children if and are afraid of heights – well, back up and then dare. Respect is my personal opinion but. Everyone must themselves know what he would do himself or. what he can expect his children. My assessment is of course highly subjective!

    Greetings
